Meet Coach Michelle Milstead! Michelle! Michell started her CrossFit journey at MP and fell in love with the intensity of the workouts and the community. She decided to pursue her CrossFit Level 1 certification in 2022 and has been a coach at MP for the past year. Known as “MP’s Greatest Cheerleader, you will always see Coach Michelle with a smile on her face and an encouraging word for our members. Congratulations Coach! We are blessed to have you in our MP family! We asked Michelle the following questions so that you could get to know her better.
The people! I know it is so cliché to say, but it’s true! I’m a new coach. I’m still learning–a lot. I’ve had many nervous and unsure moments, but our members have welcomed me with open arms, cheered me on in my new role, and shown me patience and grace. That’s just the type of people they are, and I am grateful for that. I also love the help and training I get from Jimmy and Sarah. I still ask many questions and feel capable and prepared, knowing I’ve got them to lean on.
Just start. Just show up. Be open to trying something new. Take it one day at a time. You CAN do it. It won’t be easy. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Do it for yourself. You can do more than you think, so prove to yourself how strong you are. Our community will embrace you where you are and support you every step of the way.
My background has given me a solid foundation in fitness, body awareness, and work ethic. I have a mental toughness that I learned at a young age, and it has carried me through my adulthood. I try to handle setbacks with a positive mindset (hey, I’m not perfect here), and that helps me help others when they face challenges, injuries, setbacks, or tough days.
This is a tough question because it’s hard to talk about your accomplishments, you know? I think my biggest accomplishment would be earning my L1 because it opened up the opportunity for me to coach, and I genuinely love helping people. But it also felt pretty darn good when I competed at the Monster Games and pushed myself harder than I have ever pushed. It was my 1st competition, and I just had to take a leap of faith that I could rely on my daily training and be competitive. It’s fun and necessary to step outside of our comfort zones now and then.
I love coaching any WOD that requires a mental grind (that is all of them, right?). There is just something about encouraging and coaching athletes through a brutal WOD. I also love coaching EMOMs.
