    This month, we are delighted to shine our athlete spotlight on the remarkable Coby Denton! Coby has been an integral part of the MP CrossFit community for an extraordinary 15 years. Now in his mid-70s, he proudly reflects on how CrossFit has played a crucial role in sustaining his healthier, more active lifestyle far beyond the confines of the gym. Known for his infectious positivity and ever-cheerful smile, Coby often arrives with a trademark coffee cup, ready to tackle every session enthusiastically. He exemplifies resilience and dedication, inspiring new and longtime members of our community. We have genuinely cherished his presence and contributions over the years and are thrilled to celebrate his journey. Congratulations, Coby, on your ongoing commitment and passion for fitness! To help everyone get to know him better, we sat down with Coby to ask him a few questions.

    1. When did you start your CrossFit journey, and what inspired you to pursue it?

    I began my CrossFit journey in 2009 because I needed a structured program to keep me accountable. My wife, Debbie, and I decided to sign up together at that time!

    2. You have been part of the MP CrossFit community for 15 years. What do you appreciate most about MP CrossFit, and why?

    Fifteen years is quite a commitment, especially for someone like me who was not very active before. One of my favorite aspects of MP CrossFit is the coaching. They always help me scale workouts to match my abilities, allowing me to focus on my progress without feeling pressured to compare myself to others.

    3. How has CrossFit contributed to your healthier, more active lifestyle outside the gym?

    CrossFit has enabled me to continue doing things that many individuals my age (almost 75) struggle with. Despite having heart issues, the weight I’ve lost through CrossFit has made a significant difference. In last year’s CrossFit Open, I placed in the 50th percentile! I particularly enjoy being able to get down on the floor to play with my granddaughter and being able to get back up again – a capability that many in my age group find challenging.

    4. What advice would you give to older individuals considering starting CrossFit?

    My advice is simple: come and give it a try! You might experience some muscle soreness, but that’s completely normal and manageable. You will meet many wonderful and supportive people who will encourage you and become friends along the way.

    5. You are known for your extensive travel experiences across the globe. What is one of your favorite destinations, and what makes it unique to you?

    That’s a tricky question because I have many favorite places! For sheer beauty, I would have to say Switzerland. I also had a spiritual experience in a rainforest in British Columbia, and London pleasantly surprised me as well! If I had to choose just one….?
