This month, we’re thrilled to feature Stephenie Wimberly in our Athlete Spotlight! Although Stephenie joined MP CrossFit just a few months ago, she has quickly become an integral part of our community. Her positive attitude and warm smile light up every class she attends.
Beyond her commitment in the gym, Stephenie is a gifted photographer, capturing amazing shots of our athletes in action. (Don’t miss checking out her work for any photography needs you might have!)
Congratulations, Stephenie—we’re delighted to have you at MP! We look forward to seeing you in the gym soon. To help you get to know her better, we asked Stephenie a few questions.
I started CrossFit in 2017. At the time, I was working at Chick-fil-A during college when I noticed someone wearing a CrossFit shirt. I asked her about it, and it turned out she was actually a coach at a nearby gym. She invited me to try a workout, and I was hooked. I loved the structure of it. Every day was different, and no matter how much progress I made, the workouts always challenged me. Life happened, though, and I ended up having an on-and-off relationship with the gym. I'd go for a year, and then fall off again. Eventually, I stopped going altogether and gained about 35 pounds. But late last year, I found my way back—to MP CrossFit!
Definitely the people. I’ve never been to a gym where I’ve met such genuinely kind and welcoming individuals. I’ve visited almost every CrossFit gym in Tulsa (no joke, pretty much all of them!), but this one is truly different. At MP, I feel seen.
You are stronger than you think! A lot of women grow up with the idea that they need to be as small as possible to be beautiful, and they’re afraid that lifting will make them “too big.” But strength is beautiful. It’s so much fun to see what your body is capable of. I’ve actually found that my mind tends to quit before my body does. Just show up.
Open 24.2 was a lot of fun for me! My least favorite would be anything involving running or burpees.
Outside the gym, I love anything outdoors. Kayaking at the lake is my favorite, and I love waking up early to read. I’m a big Old Testament nerd. Also, gardening is really therapeutic for me. One of my bucket-list dreams is to own land and live off the grid for a year.
